It’s week 7 of the In-Depth project. That’s a really long time now that I’m thinking about it, and I can’t believe it’s been this long since the project started. But as the frogs say, “Time’s fun when you’re having flies!”
I’ve accomplished quite a bit since my last post. More specifically, I composed the next 16 bars of my piece. The first 8 of these new bars act as what I like to call a “mini-B section”. It contrasts from the main theme, but still leads back into the “mini-A section”. Additionally, the countermelody takes a familiar form at one point… The second (new) group of 8 bars is pretty much identical to the second group of 8 bars in the older section, if that makes any sense. However, it moves into the “big” B section, which will be in the relative major, G major. Aside from that, I’ve added some articulation.
You can listen to my composition in its current state below. Still computer-generated-y, but with new, improved articulation and a modulation into G major at the end!
I was sadly unable to meet with my mentor this week, as he was busy at our normal meeting time. I should have asked him about the meeting earlier, so that I could plan an alternate meeting date. That aside, I’ve emailed him my composition and am currently awaiting a reply.
On to the questions!
- What has been my most difficult mentoring challenge so far? Why?
First of all, I think there’s a typo. The question says “my […] mentoring challenge”, but I think it should probably say “your […] mentoring challenge”. Back on topic, though, the biggest mentoring challenge/problem that comes to mind is my mentor’s inability to meet this week. The only reason why this has been the most difficult is that I haven’t had very many mentoring challenges so far, at least none big enough to remember.
- What is working well? Why?
Other than this week, meeting on Wednesdays at lunch has worked out well. It’s a time both me and my mentor are available, and we’re both in the same building at that time.
- What could be working better? How can you make sure this happens?
Communication. Our communication through Messenger and email has worked very well so far. However, I haven’t received an email back from my mentor about my composition (I sent him an email a day ago), and as I stated before, I should have contacted him about this week’s meeting a few days earlier. I think it would be beneficial if we both kept each other informed about when we’d be free and/or busy in the near future, just in case something else comes up that disrupts our normal meeting schedule.
For my next steps, I plan on adding some dynamics and beginning to create the B section. Spring Break is coming up fast, and that’s exactly the prime In-Depth working time I need before AprilMayJune.
Like always, expect progress!
